Milwaukee Bombers Metro Roundup

The first official Milwaukee Bombers Metro game for the season was played Wednesday night under blustery but otherwise fine conditions on the downtown lakefront. A good turnout of new and old players was perfect for a 10 a side game on a reduced field. In the beginning it was the familiar face of Ross Siegel teaming up with second year player Adam Kanack in the ruck to dominate the clearances and drive the ball forward for the black team.

It was not all one way traffic early though with Kurt Landers, Jason Kmiecik and the Brad Ruhge providing plenty of run through the middle for the red team and ensuring an even contest. While the wind made conditions difficult for forwards, Tommy Walker’s strong leading made him a consistent target and standout up one end while Chris Franzen showed plenty of class at the other end of the ground, demonstrating why he recently made the world team to tour Australia. Small forwards Kohn and Ellery also found plenty of the ball and provided an extra option in attack for there respective teams. Both teams played there inexperienced players in defense however, all these players showed that with a few games under there belt they are likely to be pushing for selection at senior level. Rich and Pete unsettled the forwards with there strength at the contest and hard tackling while Frankie and Matt provided plenty of run out of defense to set up there teams forward drives. In the second half the red team opened up a slight lead, the combination of Malchow, Landers, Ruhge and Jason Kimeck showing too much run for Siegel, WA Nathan, Janet Kimeck and Paul Siegrist. Adam Kanack was everywhere though, continuing to pick up possessions at will. His hard running and rapidly improving skills were on show and kept the black side within range. In the final minutes O’Connor came on to the ground for Siegel to provide some fresh legs for the black team and a nightmare for the close checking Cory Malchow. Aussies Paul Siegrist and WA Nathan found plenty of the pill in the final minutes while Janet Kmiecik continued to be at the foot of every contest for the black team getting the ball out and holding up the red team’s drives. In a frantic last few minutes the red team couldn’t move the ball out of there backline. The black team seized the opportunity, teaming together to seal the comeback with a goal on the buzzer.

BEST:

(RED) J Kmiecik, K Landers, C Franzen, B Ruhge

(BLACK): A Kanack, T Walker, R Siegel, WA Nathan.

Congratulations to Rich, Frankie, Matt, Pete for there first game.
