2008 Season Opening Party

Party, Party, Party

Saturday 29th March 2008 saw the opening Season Party for the Mighty Milwaukee Bombers. Tif was delightful as ever and in direct contrast to Plugger who, I’m grateful for, finally hung the bathroom door 2 minutes before he showered and 10 minutes before guests arrived. The alternative is too frightening to think about. It was good to see everyone again after such a long winter and as the crowd swelled towards 50, both BBQ’s were fired up and both beer tubs started getting a work-out – as only a footy party can do. The highlight of the evening came when the intrepid and dedicated first batch of “Brewer’s concession volunteer’s” arrived mid way through the evening to a round of applause fit for the heroes that they were. The stories of working in hot sweaty close quarters with fellow players have yet to surface, but I’m sure, just like most “fishing stories” they arrive in elongated form. Following this, Madam President gave her state of the club speech, which was welcomed by all. Volunteer participation by players and supporters was a keynote of what will be required to run a successful club this year. With sausages inhaled, corks popped and laughter flowing, the evening ebbed into a standard Aussie party with half the crowd in the kitchen and the other half “throwing another log on the fire”. As I scanned the discarded empties and all the dirty dishes, I wondered where Cam was, and hastened to enact my escape plan, it was passed the little one’s bedtime, which is co-incidentally just before I was handed a tea towel!  Thanks again to Tif and Plugger, all had a great time and I can’t wait to find out who was last to leave – my money is on Troy.
