West Perth has always been a big club in Western Australia. Now the Falcons are going international.

Former premiership player Brett Cousins is the club's inaugural ambassador in a new partnership established with US AFL club, the Milwaukee Bombers.

Cousins will play for the Bombers in the upcoming US football season.  In return two Bombers players will come to Perth in November to do a pre-season with the Falcons.

This will be an annual arrangement.

West Perth CEO Ken Torrance said down the track it was hoped that a player brought up and coached in the US would be good enough to play at WAFL level.

For now Cousins' role will be to help develop the game.

The partnership is the brainchild of one-eyed West Perth supporter Tony Fairhead who came up with the idea while doing business in the US. Torrance said the first two American players to take part in the initiative (both around 185cm and 80kgs) will play amateur football once they have completed their pre-season training and will stay in WA for 12 months.

"Our conditioning coaches will be sending them a program at the end of our season so they are physically ready when they come over," he said. "They are both strong, have good leaps and are and athletic but don't have all the skills. "With Todd (Curley) being a full-time coach he can spend extra time with them.

"If their local club has a bye obviously they can come and watch West Perth and we will take them to a couple of AFL games."

Torrance said Cousins, who played 148 games for the club, was the ideal person to spread the Australian Rules message overseas.

"Brett was part of our coaching structure here and part of his role will be to ensure their coaching structure is in order," he said. "He will be a terrific ambassador for the club and will provide excellent knowledge and skills to the Milwaukee coaching staff."

The Falcons will also assist the Bombers to recruit players from the West Perth district who are interested in playing football in the US and are keen to develop the game amongst juniors as well as assist with promotional events.

Torrance said local sponsors would benefit from exposure to the massive US market.

The Falcons and Bombers will provide regular updates on their partnership on their respective websites.

Cousins flies out in April in time for the start of the US season.
