Lake Shore Rovers Vie For Metro Premiership!

(Milwaukee, WI) - The Milwaukee Metro Kookaburras have taken on a new identity in 2005 - they are now the Lake Shore Rovers and appear to be ready to challenge for the Milwaukee Metro Football League (MMFL) Premiership!  The Lake Shore Rovers are one of four teams competing for the Southeast Wisconsin crown.  Made up of players spanning the Lake Michigan shoreline from Milwaukee going north (e.g., Shorewood, Glendale, Mequon, Green Bay), the Lake Shore Rovers seek to defend their 2004 (Season 2) Metro Milwaukee Footy League title.

The name change to the Lake Shore Rovers resulted from a call in early 2005 to better reflect the spirit of these lake shore dwellers.  After an exhaustive process that began by employing several leading area consulting firms, several candidates were identified that were polled among numerous focus groups.  Though the "beatnik's" scored relatively high with the trendy Milwaukee East-siders and the "Steve's" was a leading pick up North, the "Rovers" were a unanimous selection from all locations.  According to the Rovers Head Coach Kurt “The Fountain of Youth” Landers, “the name Rovers surfaced as a way to honor last years Australian Exchange Player Luke "Wooly" Woolrich.  Luke's home team back in Australia is the Hampton Rovers of the V.A.F.A. and Wooly was a key ingredient to last year’s great season.  In the end, the name “Rovers” symbolizes what this team wants to be.  Traditionally in Aussie Rules, the rover is one of the hardest working players on the grounds as well as being very fast and athletic.”

Top Rover Assistant Coach Paul “Irish” Conway “expects the Rovers to be tested early this year,  opening the ladder against the pre-season favorite Madison Mozzies on May 18 at Naga-Waukee park.  The team’s top brains are feverously working on a strategy to neutralize the league during the 2005 competition and are working through the final phases of free agency which include several star new recruits.  The opening game line-up for the Rovers, however, is expected to be anchored by last year’s three top rookies; Brad Rymer, Kevin Brown and “Sir Don” Shadian.  The Lake Shore Rovers are definitely the team to watch in 2005!
