Milwaukee Bombers Battle For First Place!

(Milwaukee, WI) - The Milwaukee Bombers will be playing a critical match this Saturday at 2:30pm in Round 5 of the 2006 Mid-American Australian Football League (MAAFL) season at Brown Deer Park in Milwaukee.  The Bombers (3-0) have matched their best start ever in the MAAFL, equaling the same feat in 2004, but have hopes for a different outcome in Round 5.  In 2004, the Bombers had just come off a tremendous team victory over the Atlanta Kookaburras, only to be stunned in Round 5 with a loss to the St. Louis Blues - the eventual MAAFL champions.  Like St. Louis in 2004, Nashville (2-1) enters this contest with a single loss in Round 1 that came in a tight affair against the Chicago United.  Therefore, the winner of this match may just have the inside track for this year's MAAFL premiership - a title the Bombers have never held and so desperately seek.

To kick the exciting football action off on Saturday, there will be an intra-club scrimmage featuring the Wisconsin Warbirds and Milwaukee Explosion starting at 12:30pm.  Admission is FREE and everyone and anyone is encouraged to attend.  All players are expected to arrive by 12:00pm to help set up the field and for warm-ups.  BBQ will be served during and after the main match for a minimal cash donation.

The Milwaukee Bombers and the Nashville Kangaroos have wonderful history, which the Bombers have had the advantage in recent years.  Prior to joining the MAAFL in 2003, the Bombers defeated the Kangaroos on their way to claiming the Division II championship.  The Bombers next played the Kangaroos in their first ever MAAFL match in 2004 at Brown Deer Park.  In a hotly contested match, Milwaukee made history with their first MAAFL victory.  Just last year, the Bombers visited the Kangaroos in Nashville in what was a thrilling MAAFL match that came down to the final quarter.  With the Bombers ahead by only a single goal as the final quarter began, they were somehow able to solve the stifling Kangaroo defense and ran away with the win.  Both Milwaukee and Nashville enter this match with their eyes squarely on the MAAFL crown as this will surely be the defining moment of the season for each of these clubs.
