Lady Bombers fall short in Atlanta

ImageAtlanta, GA. September 20, 2008. The Atlanta Lady Kookas defeated a joint New York/Milwaukee squad today in Atlanta with a final score of 64 to 18.

The Lady Bommbers traveled down south for a rematch of the early season battle with the Atlanta Lady Kookaburras. Joining the Bombers this time were the women from NY. Milwaukee coach Ross Siegel joined forces with the NY Magpie coach Anthony.

The teams had a perfect footy day at Creel Park, high of 80 degrees, sunny, and very little wind. The game started off with on a fierce pace, with both teams looking to control the ball early. Bomber captain Denielle David worked hard on and off the ball, and looked for forward Suzy Thomas often. Nicole Martiny found a comfortable spot on the wing, enjoying her time off the ball for once. In the back, the defense was lead by Minnesota native Kathryn Hogg and Megan Krauss. Megan battled Atlanta captain Judith Stein throughout the day in an elbow-filled battle holding her to one goal.

Lady Bombers Fall Despite Gallant Effort

July 26, 2008 Milwaukee, WI

The Atlanta Lady Kookaburras traveled north to Milwaukee this past weekend to take on the Lady Bombers and came away with yet another emphatic win. The Lady Kookas remain undefeated into their 4th year having played 17 games successfully. An absolutely perfect day greeted all players at Kletzsch Park with a slight breeze drifting across the field.

The first quarter continued to be a battle of the backlines with the Kookas standing tall with Katie Grist, Christina Murdock and Kris Kubicek all doing well. After Diana Pizzari came off with a bloodied nose, Sue Marsh broke free after some great work through the midfield from Sarbacker and slotted through her second for the term. Milwaukee replied late in the term with a goal to Suzy Thomas so at the first break it was Atlanta 2.1.13 Milwaukee 1.0.6

Freedom on-the-baller Nicole Martiny left mid-first quarter with a hip injury and did not return. Forward Suzy Thomas took a boot to the face resulting in a broken nose but was able to play on. Bombers saw first games from multiple players, highlighted by a great effort from Katie Krauss, who spent the majority of the game tagging Jen Sarbacker.

The final margin of 95 points a fair indication the Lady Kookas had a great day and well on the way to another great season. The Milwaukee Lady Bombers battled hard all day and although undermanned they were gallant in defeat.

This Saturday July 28, commencing at 11:00am at Kletzsch Park is the Women’s premier match of the season when they line up against Atlanta.

This is going to be a great match after the rivalry developed over the last few years. The women have been doing an incredible job fund raising and supporting the club all season and this is the culmination of the reason why.

If you are only going to attend one game this year, make it this one. It’s going to be a fierce tussle with no team giving an inch.

Let’s support our women by cheering them on at Kletzsch this Saturday.
